Another team sport for the Morganville area that is in its first year of existence is the New Jersey Ultimate Frisbee League. Men and women can play on the same team and additional players are being sought. Individuals interested in further information may contact the league at NJUFL@yahoo.com.

Morganville Scout Shop

The Morganville, New Jersey scout shop dates back to pre-2000, but no one really talks about that. It is best known as Monmouth Council Service Center, home of the New Jersey Scout Museum. As planning for the new service center and scout shop got underway in 2003, it was obvious that there would be unused second floor space.

Library and Museum

Monthly meetings convened with a committee of people who had more than a passing interest in scouting history. Scout shop, library and museum have a focus that includes all of New Jersey’s Boy and Girl Scouts. The museum is populated by donations of artifacts, equipment and cash, which began arriving early in 2004.

They were also aware of the need of forming a non-profit corporation for the museum that has no affiliation with Monmouth Council BSA. With no direct funding from any single council, the committee was in favor of keeping the two entities separate. There could be no entanglements when they applied for future grants.

The museum occupies a 700 square foot space with 20% given to an office and artifact intake center. Library reference materials include old Scouting books, guides and magazines that are available to the visiting public. Volunteers staff the museum/library, yet there are not enough people to cover Saturday openings. Donations come to the museum from local businesses and private individuals. Over the first four years, the expenses total $6,000.

Things changed a bit in 2007 when the Founder/Curator David Wolverton died at a young age, although his dream and his vision will go forward at Morganville Service Center and Museum. David’s personal collection of Scout Memorabilia became part of the Museum collection. The Wolverton family also gave a substantial financial contribution. This allows for discovery, preservation and sharing of scouting history for future generations.
